“The Picker House stands as a rare monument to a changing time, it is a true hidden gem and remains the embodiment of the extraordinary legacy left by the man who built it.”
Welcome
“The seamless and intensional integration of architecture, interior design and art creates a gesamtkunstwork - a total work of art.”
The Stanley Picker Trust was set up in 1976 at the behest of its namesake, Stanley Herbert Picker, who had the foresight and vision to make an endowment which would preserve his beautiful house and gardens, the art collection therein, and importantly, to provide support to emerging and early career artists. The trust also has a provision which supports the Stanley Picker Fellowship at Kingston University.
In accordance with Stanley’s wishes the trustees of this generous endowment have worked for nearly 50 years to ensure all petitioners to the trust were considered in a wide variety of disciplines reflecting the passions of the man himself; contemporary and fine art, theatre, opera, and classical music to name but a few. The awards and bursaries scheme is still in operation to this day and the trust is very proud to be able to remain able to provide support to arts education
Furthermore, successive trustees and custodians have taken the utmost care to preserve the house, pavilion gallery, garden and their collections in their original condition so that they may be enjoyed by visitors to the museum that was once his home.
The trust has offered guided tours for over 30 years, and the purchase of tickets for such tours goes directly towards funding the conservation and restoration of this magical place, ensuring it can be experienced in its original state for many years to come.
